Story Our work

One Health in the Congo Basin

A Shield for the World - a film about our work in Dzanga-Sangha produced by RandomGood Foundation.

The further humans enter and alter  the primeval forests of our planet, the more natural barriers that protect us from the diseases of wild animals disappear. Up to 75 per cent of all new human infectious diseases are zoonoses, they are transmitted between animals and humans.

The Congo Basin in Central Africa is considered a hotspot for zoonoses. Our  field laboratory can serve as an early warning system for infectious diseases.

There is a possibility that an unknown pathogen exists in the forests, that could potentially be the start of the next pandemic.

Frédéric  Stéphane Singa – is a wildlife vet, currently the only one in the whole country, and works in Dzanga-Sangha.

If we find the causes of animal deaths at the source, we can predict everything that can happen.
